A fan’s comp of a limited-edition Zelda-themed Nintendo Switch would be the perfect console to launch alongside the upcoming Breath of the Wild 2.
A fan imagined what a The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild limited edition Nintendo Switch might look like, and while Nintendo has kept special Switch console releases to a minimum, this might be the best way for it to celebrate the upcoming launch of END 2. Nintendo’s best-selling hybrid console has had a few official redesigns and special editions over the years, with this one coming last year Pokemon BDSP-themed Switch Lite being a recent notable example.
breath of the wild took the gaming world by storm when it was released five years ago alongside the Nintendo Switch. As a major revitalization and overhaul of the Zelda formula and a fresh take on the ubiquitous open-world genre, BOTW gained traction with fans of the series and newcomers alike, and was likely instrumental in the initial success of the Switch. As such, the game has become something of a modern icon in the eyes of many gamers, spawning dozens of new Zelda fans and remains one of the most popular games on Switch. It is also one of the few Zelda entries available on the system, as fan-favorite tracks like Zelda: The Twilight Princess were not launched on Switch.
Editor and breath of the wild fan daphyduckspo created his own design for a limited edition Zelda Nintendo Switch console, a console that could be perfect for Nintendo to date Breath of the Wild 2. Their digital concept art features both a rustic Triforce and a small portion of the BOTW logo, while the dock is marked with ancient symbols. The Joy-Cons are gold, each having Zelda designs. The dock and the console itself are also gold, reminiscent of previous Zelda special edition consoles released by Nintendo over the years, including the Game Boy Advance SP and Nintendo 3DS.
It’s perhaps surprising that Nintendo hasn’t released an official Special Edition Zelda Switch, especially given the popularity of the previous Special Edition Zelda consoles have been over generations. This lack of an official Nintendo release hasn’t stopped fans from creating their own concepts, as daphyduckspo’s design joins those from last year. Wind Waker Switch skins, once again showing how the iconography of this franchise can be put to good use.
Nintendo has been pretty quiet about the upcoming release of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2. While fans got a glimpse of the gameplay, the story and even the game’s official title remain a mystery. With END 2 recently delayed to 2023, players will still have to wait a while to find out more. As for whether or not Nintendo will release a special-edition console to celebrate Link’s upcoming release, that’s even more uncertain, but thanks to artists like daphyduckspo, gamers can certainly hope.
