Xbox series X stock – live: latest UK replenishment updates of Game, Smyths and more

Xbox Series X reportedly getting 500GB storage expansion card

The Xbox Series X is almost a year old, but it’s still out of stock across the UK. A global semiconductor shortage, combined with the collapse of supply chains at home and abroad, has slowed production of Microsoft’s latest Xbox in the past 10 months.

The cheaper, less powerful Xbox Series S is easier to find online, but the more powerful Xbox Series X sells out within minutes, if not seconds, of new stock appearing. Knowing where the Xbox will be restocked next is essential to grab one in time.

If you are wondering where to buy an Xbox Series X in the UK today, our live inventory tracking blog is here to help. We’ll keep you up to date with the latest stock drops as they happen, as well as any updates on planned restock dates, new games and accessories, and milestones.

Logging out of the live blog

Well, that ends another quiet day of Xbox hunting. How was it for you? We suspect that, unless you’ve managed to grab one of the five consoles we’ve spotted at Smyths Toys Belfast, you’ll be a bit disappointed. Don’t worry, so do we.

The good news is that we still expect to see Xbox Series X restockings before the end of September, and we’ll be back here tomorrow to share any restocking news as soon as we get them. See you then!

When was ‘Fifa 22’ released on Xbox?

Kylian Mbappé and Virgil van Dijk in ‘Fifa 22’

(EA Sports)

FIFA 22 is set to be one of the biggest games of the quarter, and if you’ve pre-ordered the Ultimate Edition, it’s available to play right now. However, if you pre-ordered the Standard Edition, you still have a few days to wait, as this version of the game is not available until October 1.

You can purchase both standard and ultimate editions of FIFA 22 now by visiting EA’s website, and editions are also available on Amazon (from £ 59.99, Amazon.co.uk), Game (from £ 64.99, Game.co.uk ), Very (from £ 54.99, Very.co .uk) and GameByte (from £ 54.95, Gamebyte.com).

Another key difference between the two editions is that buyers of the Ultimate Edition for PS4 and Xbox one can upgrade to the PS5 and Xbox version of the game for free.

Does Microsoft have Xbox Series X stock?

It’s a bit strange. Although the Xbox Series X is a Microsoft product, the computer giant often doesn’t have game consoles in stock. Instead, it is currently asking buyers to purchase the Xbox Series S through the All Access service offered by Game, Smyths and 4gadgets, for £ 20.99 per month.

The Xbox X series, of course, is currently out of stock at all of these retailers, and neither is it available directly from Microsoft. In fact, Microsoft has run out of Series X inventory since September 7, and before that, the last restockings were on August 10 and 25. So while you could argue that Microsoft has been slow to restock the Xbox Series X, we’re not going to hold our breath.

How to pre-order the Nintendo Switch OLED

(iStock / The Independent)

If trying to buy a PS5 or Xbox Series X isn’t enough to keep you occupied, Nintendo is about to release its latest gaming console, called Switch OLED. The big upgrade over the regular Switch is, of course, the new OLED display.

For organic light emitting diodes, this technology does not need an LED backlight to illuminate the pixels from behind, as each pixel itself emits its own light. This helps to improve the contrast ratio of the screen, makes the colors more vivid and also creates deeper blacks, because when a pixel is off it is really black.

The new Nintendo Switch OLED also has a slightly larger screen than the standard model (7 inches vs. 6.22 inches) and increased internal storage, from 32 GB to 64 GB. The console is priced at £ 309.99 and is scheduled for release in the UK on October 8th.

What is the difference between Xbox Series X and Series S?

(Microsoft)

It feels like another quiet day in the land of Xbox, so let’s go over the basics and remember the main differences between the Xbox S series and the X series – other than, you know, how one is readily available and the ‘other is simply’ t.

There are two next-gen Xboxes: the less powerful Xbox S series and the higher-end Xbox X series.

All old and new Xbox games will work on both consoles, although on the less powerful Xbox Series S the overall graphics quality will be reduced. Specifically, both consoles can play 4K content like videos streamed from Netflix, but only the X series can play games in 4K.

The Xbox S series does not have a disc drive, has half the storage capacity of the X series (512GB vs. 1TB), and can only play downloaded games. The Xbox S series is much easier to find in stock than the X series. It’s also cheaper and costs just £ 249 (Amazon.co.uk).

Here are all the technical details:

Xbox S Series Specifications:

  • CPU: Custom 8-core Zen 2 processor
  • GPU: 4 TFLOPS, 20 CUS
  • Memory: 10 GB of GDDR6 memory
  • Storage room: 512 GB SSD
  • Resolution: 1440p at 60fps

Xbox X Series Specifications:

  • CPU: AMD Zen 2 8-core @ 3.8 GHz
  • GPU: 12TFLOPS, 52 UC @ 1.825 GHz
  • Memory: 16 GB of GDDR6 memory
  • Storage room: Optional 1TB, 1T Custom WD SSD
  • Resolution: 4K at 60 fps

When was the last time Very had an Xbox restock?

Very only had one restock in July and one in August. So far, it has also only had one this month, September 14. The retailer’s website currently says Xbox stock will be “available soon,” and unlike most stores, this also applies to the S series, which is also out of stock at Very.

With any luck, we’re hoping to see Very restock their Xbox supplies either in late September or the first half of October, but we can’t be more specific than that just yet.

Can you play Xbox games on a laptop?

(The independent)

Yes! You don’t actually need an Xbox Series X to play Xbox Series X games, just a fairly fast internet connection and a compatible streaming device.

Xbox Cloud Gaming streams games from Microsoft’s servers to your console, laptop, or phone, through your internet browser or the Xbox app. It all works much like you’re on a Zoom call with a game you control, meaning you can access new games with the push of a button rather than waiting for an install. The game is run on Microsoft’s servers and then its image and sound are streamed to whatever device you use to control it.

Cloud gaming requires an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription (£ 32.99, Argos.co.uk), which unlocks on-demand access to over 100 games. Fortunately, decent laptops are much easier to find than the Xbox Series X. If you’re considering an upgrade, check out our list of the best laptops in 2021.

The best TVs to play on Xbox Series X

(iStock / The Independent)

To get the most out of the Xbox Series X, you’ll need a TV with 4K resolution.

Many new generation games allow you to choose between a performance mode and a graphics mode. The former lowers visuals slightly for a smoother, more consistent frame rate, while the latter mode allows for higher resolutions and improved visual effects at the expense of frame rate.

If your TV only outputs 1080p (also known as Full HD), you won’t get the most out of your new Xbox Series X. To help you upgrade your TV without breaking the bank, we’ve put together a list of the best 4K TV deals for entertainment, movies and games.
