A copy of the original Sonic the hedgehog game for Sega Genesis has been sold for a record selling price of $ 430,500. This is not only a new record for this Sonic game, it also makes it an “all time” record sale for any Genesis title.

This rated game has been “WATA Certified”. As you may remember, WATA is one of the ranking companies that has been criticized in the past for allegedly playing in the retro video game market. Just recently, for example, the co-founder was accused of selling the company’s games under a different alias on eBay.

Sonic the Hedgehog co-creator Yuji Naka even saw the latest sale himself – talking about the possibility that it was a “scam”:

Sure, many responses on social networks have quickly linked Karl Jobst’s YouTube video and follow-up stories in the graduate gaming market lately. It’s not just Sonic we see with – in August, a copy of the original Super Mario Bros. on the NES sold for a record $ 2 million.

WATA previously shared the following statement with Nintendo Life in response to Karl Jobst’s accusations of “fraud and deception” in the retro gaming market:

“Wata Games is the trusted leader in the ranking of collectible video games and we are honored to play a key role in this booming industry that we are so passionate about. We are touched by the support of our thousands of customers who make us confidence to provide accurate and transparent scoring. The allegations in this video are completely unfounded and defamatory and it is unfortunate that Mr. Jobst has not contacted us to give us the opportunity to correct him. “
