We Pokémon fans have been frankly spoiled by remakes in the past. From Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen in 2004 to the recent Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, if there’s one thing we love, it’s playing the same game again only slightly different look.
A fan took this mission statement and ran with it. Posted on their YouTube channel, Pokebro has spent the past two weeks attempting to remake Pokémon Yellow in 3D and the results are truly impressive.
The full video (found above) shows that this was no simple task. Much like last year’s CodyCantEatThis project – where he redesigned Pokémon Red and Blue – the Pokebro video sees the designer redo popular locations such as Pallet Town, Viridian City and Route 2 in, you guessed it, in 3D.
The artist references the Link’s Awakening remake as a key inspiration for his finished product, and we can definitely spy hints of The Touryst in this crisp voxel art. In addition to these eye-catching sprites, the rebuild also adds new mechanics to the game. Pokémon Legends: Arceus-esque Poké Ball launch event.
Adding these features to the miniature toy feel of the project, Pokebro’s build kinda makes us hope for another (typical) remake. The video is unfortunately only a video at the moment and does not technically function as a playable game. While it seems unlikely that the Pokémon Company will ever turn to this retro HD style for its games in the future, there’s no harm in crossing your fingers.
