Earlier this week, The Pokémon Company revealed its New Live Pokémon Trading Card Game application for mobile and PC.
Of course, this has raised a lot of questions about what is going on with the existing game, Pokémon TGC Online. TPC has now posted a full FAQ on the old version’s “sunset” process – explaining how this app will be phased out and the servers will be shut down “shortly before the launch” of the new game.
Existing players will be able to transfer their data the first time they log into Pokémon TCG Live. This includes transferring the majority of cards, but not necessarily all – unopened packs will also be converted to crystals (in-game currency). Code cards have been confirmed to be compatible with TCG Live, although some of these codes may unlock “different items” in the new app.
TPC also explained some of the reasoning behind the current game’s discontinuation – showing how TCG Live will not only be easier to update, but more accessible on smartphones, tablets, PCs and Macs. And apart from that, the reason for merging existing player accounts is to ensure that there is a larger pool of digital players.
