New Horizons Player Shows Off Custom Joy-Cons

An Animal Crossing: New Horizons fan shows off the custom Nintendo Joy-Cons they designed after the popular life-sim title.

When Animal Crossing: New Horizons was released in 2020, it was arguably one of the most anticipated Nintendo titles to launch at the time. Nintendo even seemed to think so as the company came up with a special life simulation-themed Nintendo Switch model. Now a Animal Crossing: New Horizons fan decided to customize their own Joy-Cons, using the Nintendo title as inspiration for their overall design.

The Animal Crossing: New Horizons fanbase is not new to customization, especially life simulation. The title offers a variety of customization options, allowing players to create amazing themes Animal Crossing: New Horizons islands, rooms, etc. And apparently that penchant for customization has spilled over to personal items as well. With this fan learning how to mod Nintendo Joy-Cons, they finally decided to create a custom design themed around the animal crossing series.

According to Redditor russspruce, they started making custom Joy-Cons last summer. On their thread, they posted a photo of the Animal Crossing: New Horizons Custom Joy-Cons they designed. The photo they shared showed a set with a white background and well-known game icons like the leaf and the house dotted around. The Joy-Con buttons were now also in primary colors like red, blue, yellow, and green, while the Joy-Con sticks had the same white color as the controller shells.

While the Redditor didn’t detail how they were able to make the Joy-Con look like this, they did share that they used around four customization kits to achieve the end result. They had pointed out that they had to choose from different color variations for the controllers, but settled on the white Joy-Con shells and thumbsticks, then the primary-colored buttons. One commenter shared that the color scheme chosen by russspruce reminded them of the Nintendo DS title Animal Crossing: New Leafespecially since the special DS model released with the old title had a similar schematic.

However Animal Crossing: New Horizons has the official limited-edition Nintendo Switch console that comes with its own special Joy-Cons, it’s probably interesting for the fanbase to see that they can also customize their Joy-Cons to look a certain way. There are several third-party brands that have custom kits and parts that allow fans to change the look of their console or controllers. However, since they are not officially from Nintendo, the community should proceed with caution as tampering with the console and controllers may void warranties or break them altogether.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is currently available for Nintendo Switch.
