Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is coming to Nintendo Switch in November and is being developed by Aspyr, who also manages the remake.
During the last Nintendo Direct it was confirmed that the original Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic arrives on Nintendo Switch in November. This isn’t the recently announced remake but a port of the classic BioWare game, meaning there won’t be any substantial new content or changes to the game. Star Wars: KOTOR that players already know. Still, it looks like an exciting new way to play one of the media’s most beloved RPGs.
During PlayStation Showcase 2021, Aspyr Media officially announced that it is developing a full remake of Star Wars: KOTOR. The remake is expected to rework gameplay and more, with rumors that it will switch from turn-based combat to real-time combat. The story is still widely considered to be similar to what was in the original game, but Aspyr may make a few changes (which could become new Star wars canon). It’s unclear if there are plans to develop a sequel separate from the original. Knights of the Old Republic 2 at this point, but it’s certain that Switch owners will experience the original game in all its glory this fall.
During Nintendo Direct on Thursday, it was confirmed Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic will arrive on Nintendo Switch on November 11. Aspyr will also manage this port, as it has done with others Star wars Games. By the time KOTOR – Remake Released on PS5, the game will be fully available on almost all modern home consoles except the PlayStation 4 and 5. The game is currently also available on Xbox consoles via backward compatibility. Knights of the Old Republic is also available on mobile devices, and it’s unclear whether the Switch version will use this version as the base for its own port.
It is interesting to see that Aspyr is still in charge of Knights of the Old Republic despite his ongoing work on the remake. While the original game still seems to eschew PlayStation consoles for now, the original Switch game will join the mobile versions offering a unique support and play experience not available on other supported platforms. While BioWare’s most acclaimed work lives on, the studio won’t be involved in the upcoming remake. Ironically, BioWare tried to redo KOTOR at one point as well, but his attempt never made it past the initial launch phase.
There is currently no word on additional features such as motion controls for the Nintendo Switch version. KOTOR. Aspyr may make minor adjustments for the new port, but – based on previous work – the game will likely remain largely the same. Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic on Nintendo Switch is fortunate enough to give a new generation of gamers some background on why it’s considered such a classic title.
