With the announcement of the revamp of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic for the PS5, a former BioWare member reveals a rejected remaster pitch.
One of the most popular games in Star wars the franchise is Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (KOTOR). It was a seminal RPG first developed by BioWare, based on an old comic book series. It was recently announced that the first KOTOR The game will be remade as an exclusive timed console for the PS5 and PC. Following the remake announcement, former BioWare member Trent Oster revealed plans to pitch a âReforged Collectionâ of the two games.
Trent Oster was the co-founder of the Edmonton-based developer, training him alongside Ray Muzyka and Greg Zeschuk due to their programming background. This ultimately led to the development of several classic RPGs like Baldur’s Gate and Winter nights. The company would then enter into an agreement with LucasArts to develop Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic and Jade empire. Trent Oster was with BioWare until 2009, when he left to form his own company, BeamDog.
When the news of the Knights of the Old Republic remake was posted, Oster praised Aspyr’s team for the efforts and said he finally knew who “beat them.” This tweet was accompanied by a screenshot of a PDF document that detailed the âReforged Collection,â although it didn’t show much more than the title page, as well as some of the slide titles. Some of them include the mention of HD graphics redesigns, as well as some of the key ideas conveyed for this collection.
Oster lamented that there was a ton of work behind this Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic pitch, being sad that their team and their ideas could not be fully realized. Asked about additional details beyond the first page, he further explained that none of this information, other than what he was already revealing, could not be shown any further, due to certain “confidential information”.
Oster’s tweet, however, never clarified whether the pitch was going to be a remaster or a remake, likely due to the aforementioned privacy. Some fans have expressed disappointment at the announcement of the deletion of this potential collection. When asked about his feelings about the remake, Oster assured them that Aspyr’s efforts to remake KOTOR from scratch will be worth playing.
