Normally, new features in gadgets and consoles are tested internally and then released to the world.
But some companies will let certain users try out features early on, to see if they work well.
Sony is doing just that with the PS5 updates and has launched a new PS5 system software beta.

You can register for free and you will have early access to updates.
This means that when a beta update arrives, you’ll see features well ahead of the general population.
âSince the launch of the PS5, our teams have strived to continually improve your console experience,â said Sony.
âOur last major update to the PS5 system in April introduced new features.
âSuch as USB extended storage, intergenerational shared play, improved gaming base, and other user interface enhancements and social features.
“We’ll be sharing more in the coming weeks on what to expect in the beta of our next update.”
To register, go to this link:
You must be over 18 to participate.
And you will need to be located in UK, USA, Canada, Japan, Germany, and France.
If you are selected, you will receive an email with instructions on how to download the beta version of the software.
You will need a PS5 console with an internet connection, as well as a PlayStation Network account.
Once logged in, you’ll automatically be added to the pool of potential attendees for future updates – so you won’t need to re-register each time.
You can also restore your system software to a non-beta version at any time.
Keep in mind that while beta testing is a great idea for gadget geeks, it can create some issues.
The beta software can be buggy, so you might find your PS5 behaving strangely.
