We can never play Ladder, but at least we’ll likely see how some of the game’s features would have played if the doomed Xbox exclusive had never been released.
Former Scalebound Senior Producer Jean Pierre Kellams provided insight into how developer PlatinumGames recycles doomed game elements and makes them relevant again in Bayonetta 3.
The former PlatinumGames employee noted in a tweet that Bayonetta 3 director Yusuke Miyata was Scalebound’s design lead at the time, and the summon mechanic was apparently a big part of how you control your dragon, Thuban, in the title who never did it to release.
“Yusuke Miyata was the lead designer on Scalebound, and he’s super talented, and I can’t wait to play Bayo 3 mainly because he’s directing it,” Kellams wrote. in a tweet (via VGC).
“Summoning control looks VERY like a mechanic we had in Scalebound to control Thuban. Now that I’ve had the chance to watch the trailer again, I’m really excited for it.
It’s something small, but it’s nice to glean this little bit of information on how developers can use canceled game elements in other projects like this – especially since Scalebound and its development in particular have been shrouded in so much secrecy and controversy.
Announced in 2017, Bayonetta 3 will finally arrive on Switch next year. After 1,386 days, we got a brand new trailer for Bayonetta 3 during this week’s Nintendo Direct (which has been 3 years, 9 months, 2 weeks, and 3 days since the game was revealed on December 7, 2017). ).
